Steel has its mills. Chips have their fabs. Food — the thing we cannot live without — is still grown the way weather allows. We think that is the biggest unfinished project in industry.

CHAPTER I THE CRAFT

Every craft that mattered was given a cathedral.

In 1771 a river in Derbyshire started spinning cotton, and work left the home forever. In 1856 a converter in Sheffield blew air through iron, and cities learned to stand up straight. In 1913 a chassis in Detroit began to move, and the century moved with it. Each time, someone built the building first.

Mill. Furnace. Line. Grid. Cleanroom. Two hundred and fifty years of walking the work indoors — and every time, the world changed shape.

Food never has.

You cannot stamp a lettuce. You cannot cast a vine.
A farm is a factory that must stay alive.

Not for lack of trying. Greenhouses tamed the climate. Vertical farms proved the appetite — and paid for every photon the sun used to give away free. The lesson was generous: keep the density. Keep the sun. Then finish the job.

CHAPTER III THE HOUSE

So we are building the cathedral ourselves.

Not a shed with lights. A building designed around a living crop the way a fab is designed around a wafer — every system serving the thing at its centre.

No rails. No rig. It comes to the crop.

Designed together,
or not at all.

A robot added to a farm stays a visitor. Ours is drawn with the building — the aisles are its roads, the towers are its address book, the harvest is its curriculum. Every pass through the rows makes the next one smarter.

Farms that learn from each other.

A mill only ever taught itself. A fab shares its recipes across the fleet. That is the promise agriculture never got to make: a thousand growing houses, every one of them taught by every harvest before it — yield, health, energy, flavour, compounding across the network like interest.

At the edge of the city, in step with the sun, indifferent to drought and season — fresh becomes a property of distance, not luck.
